Winter Forecast What Are The Experts Saying?
We have two types of people in New England! There are those that want warm and sunny weather regardless of the season and there are a few of us that look forward to colder temperatures with a lot of snow. Candidly, I enjoy two months of winter followed by ten months of summer!
What does Mother Nature have in store for us this winter? Well over the last two years and this Fall, she has favored the sun worshippers. September and October may have ranked as one of the warmest on record, but we are finally seeing temperatures dropping, and winter seems to be officially on its way just in time for Christmas.
The experts are focusing on La Nina, a climate pattern that is creating uncertainty surrounding exactly how cold it will be and how much snow the region will have. Here are what some experts are predicting:
NOAA
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will make the warm weather team happy predicting that the East Coast, including New England, will likely see warmer-than-normal temperatures.
In terms of snowfall, the forecast for New England has an equal chance of seeing above, near, or below-normal precipitation, according to NOAA.
AccuWeather
The weather forecasting company says an early chill in the northeast followed by a mid-winter thaw with an above-normal snow season is ahead for the Northeast.
Old Farmer’s Almanac
One of my favorites is also forecasting snowier-than-normal conditions in the Northeast, with mild temperatures.“Of particular note, for those readers rooting for shovels, we are red-flagging the 2021 dates of:
January 20-23,
February 4-7 & 16-19
March 1-3 & 20-23
Along the Atlantic Seaboard for some heavy precipitation,” the weather guide said.
So, no matter the outcome, there is something for everybody. My wish is to have a white Christmas and temperatures in the 20 to 30-degree range.
